St. Louis, MO – This summer, Oyen Lab had the pleasure of welcoming Sudha Anilkumar, an undergraduate student from the University of Delaware, as a National Science Foundation (NSF) Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) intern through the Summer Undergraduate Program for Engineering Research Towards a Virtual Pregnancy (SUPER VP) program. Sudha, an undergraduate student from the University of Delaware, joined the Summer Program for Engineering Research Towards a Virtual Pregnancy. This program, hosted by the Center for Women’s Health Engineering, is in its inaugural year, and we are thrilled to have Sudha as one of its pioneering participants.
“We are thrilled to have had Sudha join our team for the summer,” said Patrick Yang, Lab Manager of Oyen Lab. “Her dedication and enthusiasm for learning have made a significant impact on our research efforts.”
During her time with us, Sudha gained valuable experience in using Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) and analyzing compression on the placenta, where she designed a device for her research. Her work culminated in a poster presentation titled “Biophysical Characterization of Placenta Tissue to Inform Oxygen Transport,” which explores OCT analysis of placenta tissue under various weights to simulate different pressures. We are grateful for her contributions and hope this experience was enriching for her future endeavors.
